Dress to pick:
Wear closed shoes, long pants, and long sleeves to protect your skin from stings and bites. Gloves are also helpful but tend to snag on the thorns; some people were a glove one hand only. This allows them to grab a briar with one hand, while  picking the berries off of it with the other hand.

Extreme U Pick Blackberries and Raspberries

Why Extreme? Because these berries ARE NOT thornless. We chose the wild blackberry variety with thorns over the thornless because of the antioxident properties found in the wild variety over todays standard cultivated thornless varieties.  We know thorns can be wicked but we felt for the homestead lifestyle we believe in that the original was the way to go, even if it is has thorns.
If you would like to read more on the health information concerning this follow this think to a great article on the subject.

Our Raspberries are the Latham variety and we only have a small section of these available for U-pick.

We have just started developing the U-pick area in fall of 2023 for both kinds of berries. We are transplanting from other areas of the farm to make the U-pick berries available for those brave enough to experience EXTREME berry picking.
